Enhancing UX & UI Through Thoughtful Solutions

SEEK (seek.com.au) is Australia’s leading job platform, connecting job seekers and employers with a wide range of recruitment services. As a designer on both the Profile Team and Mobile Team, I contributed to refining the UX/UI to enhance usability and engagement.

Challenges

  1. Collaboration in a Large Organisation: How can we effectively adapt UX design and processes to align with evolving strategies while maintaining existing workflows?

  2. Scalability in Design: How do we overcome limitations in design systems and processes to create scalable design assets that support sustainable team growth?

  3. Challenging the Status Quo: How can we propose practical and creative UX solutions that improve profile functionality and maximise user satisfaction?

Key Contributions

  • Modernised SEEK’s Design Approach: As one of Australia's largest corporations, SEEK required a balance between innovation and existing workflows. I introduced web-friendly animations and recommended using prototyping for rapid decision-making. I also mentored the team to apply these solutions across platforms, increasing engagement in user testing and expanding the design asset library.

  • Progressive Enhancements to Profile Features: Led key projects that identified pain points through workshops and analysis, resulting in a 3x increase in weekly resume uploads and a 75% boost in user satisfaction. Ongoing UX improvements streamlined workflows and enhanced usability.

  • Pushing Design Beyond Limitations: Despite the constraints of a large corporation, I collaborated with my team to explore emerging design trends and integrate real-world case studies into our work. These efforts led to innovative usability improvements and scalable design solutions, shaping SEEK’s long-term design direction.

Problem:
Uploading resumes to SEEK was a complex process, creating friction for job seekers and limiting the platform’s ability to attract strong candidates efficiently.

UX Execution:

  • Designed and implemented automatic text scanning for uploaded resumes, allowing job seekers to instantly populate their SEEK profile.

  • Collaborated across departments to solve technical design challenges, using prototypes to minimise steps and streamline user interactions.

  • Introduced animated UX cues to guide users through the scanning process, keeping them engaged for the required 5-second scan time and reducing privacy concerns.

Results:

  • Weekly online resume updates doubled from 23K to 46K.

  • Over 44K job seekers now update their career information weekly via web and app.

  1. Automating Resume Scanning for Better UX

Key Achievements

Led stakeholder workshops to refine wireframes and incorporate existing components, ensuring seamless adoption of new features.

Created early-stage visualisations of potential scenarios to validate cross-functional feasibility and minimise errors.

Successfully introduced SEEK’s first in-service animations, designing in After Effects and collaborating with developers to implement JSON-based assets across all platforms.

2. Making Resume Building Effortless

Problem:
Despite resume updates, user data was often incomplete or inaccurate. The existing profile-based application processes under-utilised, with only 6.3K users successfully creating a resume and just 1.8K applying with a SEEK profile.

UX Execution:

  • Redesigned the resume builder as a simple survey-style form, allowing users to focus on one section at a time instead of feeling overwhelmed by a long form.

  • Conducted business requirement analysis and collaborated with developers to ensure clarity in UI functionality.

  • Developed prototypes based on user testing, optimising the process for intuitive interaction and maximising user engagement.

Results:

  • Resume completion rates increased from 6.3K to 19K.

  • Profile-based applications rose from 1.8K to 7.2K.

Used Figma prototypes and Abstract for real-time design collaboration, enabling open discussions and well-informed decisions.

Facilitated early-stage workshops aligning UX goals with business OKRs, fostering collaboration between developers and stakeholders.

Continued post-launch refinement through user interviews, Hotjar surveys, and A/B testing, ensuring data-backed improvements.

Problem:
As a large corporate design team, SEEK prioritised maintaining consistency within its design system. However, there was also a need to explore new ideas and provide a clear design vision for future developments.

Execution & Contributions:

  • New Tool Mentorship: Introduced cutting-edge design tools and methodologies, demonstrating how to apply them to real projects. Conducted team-wide tutorials for designers and developers.

  • Forward-Looking Concept Design: Developed scalable design concepts that showcased potential UX evolutions, helping guide SEEK’s long-term design vision.

3. Concept Designs for Future Possibilities

Future-Proofing SEEK’s Web Experience: While SEEK primarily focused on web, I explored how these features could work in an iOS environment, creating interactive concept designs.

Optimising Employer Dashboards: Designed a visually intuitive dashboard for recruiters, simplifying complex hiring processes and enhancing data visibility.

Upgrading Zora Local: Proposed a modernised UI for SEEK’s Zora Local service, exploring how it could integrate with Android’s latest design framework.
